This privacy policy describes how Bookhaul, an app made by Thumos Studios Pty Ltd, handles your information.

Information We Collect

Account information you provide

• Your email address, used for account creation and magic link sign-in
• If you sign in with Apple, an Apple-provided identifier; if you use "Hide My Email", we only receive Apple's relay address, not your real email
• Onboarding answers you provide, such as reading habits, preferred genres, and reading goals

Content you create in the app

• Books you add to your library, reading sessions you log, and reading streaks
• Photos you take or select for the purpose of identifying books

Automatically collected usage information

• Anonymous app usage events, used to understand how the app is used and to improve it. These events are not linked to your account or identity.

We do not collect location, contacts, health, financial, or biometric information.

Third Party Services

Bookhaul uses these services to function:

• Supabase — hosts the database, authentication, and file storage where your account, books, reading logs, and uploaded photos live
• OpenAI — receives photos you submit for book identification and returns the results. Per OpenAI's API policy, data sent through the API is not used to train OpenAI's models. Only the photo and identification request are sent; no other account information is shared.
• Apple — used for Sign in with Apple authentication if you choose that option

We may also disclose information as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or where necessary to protect rights, safety, or to investigate fraud.

AI-Powered Book Identification

When you use the book identification feature, the photo you provide is sent to OpenAI. The photo is used solely to identify the books shown and is not retained by OpenAI for model training. By using this feature, you consent to your photo being sent to OpenAI for this purpose. You can avoid sharing photos by not using the photo-based book identification feature. You can still add books manually or by barcode.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time from within the app (Profile → Delete Account). When you delete your account, your account, library, reading logs, and uploaded photos are immediately removed from the live database. Copies of your data may persist in Supabase's automatic daily backups for up to seven days before those backups naturally expire, after which no copy remains.

You can also stop future collection by uninstalling the app.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise these rights by deleting your account in-app or by contacting us at support@bookhaul.app.

Children

We do not knowingly receive data from or market to children under the age of 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personally identifiable information, please contact support@bookhaul.app so appropriate action can be taken.

Security

We use physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect your information.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will reflect material changes by updating this page and the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change is published constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
